Pukhraj Singh Gill Secures Maiden IGPL Title with Record Nine-Shot Triumph in Jamshedpur
Jamshedpur, November 8 (TheTrendingPeople.com):
Indian golfer Pukhraj Singh Gill captured his first-ever professional title in emphatic style at the IGPL Invitational Jamshedpur, closing the week with a masterful display of consistency and control. The 26-year-old shot a 23-under total over three days to clinch victory by a record nine-shot margin, one of the largest in IGPL Tour history.
Gill’s bogey-free final round of 66, following earlier rounds of 63 and 64, underlined his commanding form at the Beldih Golf Course. With just one bogey over 54 holes, he displayed rare composure under pressure to seal a wire-to-wire win.
Gill’s Moment of Glory
Coming into the final round with a seven-shot lead, Pukhraj never looked in danger of relinquishing control. His clinical driving, sharp iron play, and unshakable focus kept his nearest rivals at bay throughout.
“It’s hard to describe at the moment. It’s beyond all elation, all the synonyms of happy and excited — just incredible to finally get my first professional victory,” Gill said after lifting the trophy.
He admitted that crossing the finish line after multiple close calls earlier in his career felt “like removing a heavy weight off his shoulders.”
“There was a lot of uncharted territory for me because I didn’t know what it would take to get it done. The way I was able to handle myself out there is just unbelievable,” he added.
Gill’s performance was near-flawless: three birdies on each side of the course on the final day, capitalizing on his long drives and steady putting. His only bogey of the entire event came on the 14th hole of Round 2.
Record-Breaking Performance and Order of Merit Rise
Gill’s victory was his first professional title and came in the sixth event of the 2025 IGPL Tour. His winning score of 23-under set a new record for the Jamshedpur Invitational, while his nine-shot margin over second-placed Chinnaswamy Muniyappa was the largest of the season.
The victory catapulted Pukhraj to second place on the IGPL Order of Merit with earnings of ₹48,81,382, trailing only Aman Raj (₹60,48,858). Kartik Singh stands third at ₹47,67,857.
Aman Raj finished 17th this week, while Kartik Singh was tied for 12th.
“This win really helps me get into every other tournament that follows. There was a big baggage I carried of not being able to win so far, and now it’s off my shoulders. I think there’ll be a little more freedom to play every event from here on,” Gill said.
Chinnaswamy Muniyappa: A Veteran’s Resurgence
Former Indian Open champion Chinnaswamy Muniyappa turned back the clock with a final-round 64, the lowest of the day, to finish second at 14-under — his best result of the season.
“Pukhraj played very well and deserved to win. He is playing excellent golf,” said Muniyappa, acknowledging the young champion’s dominance.
Reflecting on his own game, the 48-year-old added,
“I am again playing well and have my confidence back. I drove the ball well, missed the right side — which was perfect — and had some good chip-ins. This result gives me the freedom to enjoy my game again.”
Muniyappa’s last professional win came at the Hero Indian Open in 2009, and his resurgence at Jamshedpur underscores his enduring class and resilience.
Strong Field and Tight Finishes
Behind the top two, Sachin Baisoya (69), who was second overnight, slipped to third despite an eagle on the closing holes. Baisoya’s round featured three birdies, two bogeys, and a late eagle, taking him to 14-under overall — his third top-three finish in six IGPL starts this season.
“It’s a bit disappointing not to convert the position, but I’m happy with my consistency,” Baisoya said post-round.
Harendra Gupta, Saarthak Chibber, and Sudhir Sharma shared fourth place at 12-under, while Aryan Roopa Anand finished seventh at 11-under.
The trio of Shat Mishra, Yashas Chandra, and Tushar Pannu tied for eighth at 10-under, rounding off the top 10.
Veteran Chiragh Kumar, a former Asian Tour winner making a comeback from injury, finished 11th at nine-under, marking a positive return to competitive golf.
Gill’s Inspirations and Mentorship
Gill credited Indian golf legend Gaganjeet Bhullar for inspiring his self-belief.
“A few weeks ago, after finishing runner-up, Gaganjeet Bhullar told me at lunch, ‘You’re going to win many times this year.’ His belief really touched me. To actually win now feels great,” Gill shared.
He also thanked his parents, who have often accompanied him to tournaments, for their unwavering support.
“They’ve seen every high and low. To have them here this week means everything,” he added emotionally.
Strategic Play and Course Mastery
Gill attributed his victory to his course strategy and powerful driving.
“Throughout the three days, I realised the course really suited my game. My distance off the tee is a big asset, and the layout allowed me to capitalize on that strength,” he explained.
The Beldih Golf Course, known for its narrow fairways and fast greens, rewarded players with precision and control — areas where Gill excelled all week.
IGPL officials commended his composed performance. Tour Director Rakesh Gaur remarked,
“Pukhraj’s consistency and maturity stood out. Winning by nine shots at this level is exceptional — it shows he’s ready to challenge for bigger titles.”
India’s Rising Golf Scene and What Lies Ahead
Gill’s win further cements India’s growing presence in the professional golf circuit, with the IGPL Tour providing a competitive platform for domestic and international players alike.
The IGPL Invitational Jamshedpur served as the sixth event of the 2025 season, featuring some of India’s top professionals and emerging talents. The tour continues to be a stepping stone toward the Asian and European Tours, offering exposure, prize money, and ranking points.
Gill’s next stop is the IGPL Mumbai Masters, where he hopes to continue his winning momentum.
“I love the Mumbai course — it suits my style. Now that the pressure to win is off, I’m free to just enjoy the game,” he said confidently.
