Kashyap Takes Aim at AI in Cinema
Mumbai, Aug 19 (TheTrendingPeople.com):
Renowned Indian filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has launched a scathing attack on the makers of the recently announced AI-generated film Chiranjeevi Hanuman – The Eternal.
On Tuesday, Kashyap posted a detailed note on Instagram targeting Vijay Subramaniam, Founder & Group CEO of Collective Artists Network, accusing him of betraying the very artiste community his company claims to represent.
“End of the Day, It’s All About Profits”
In his post, Kashyap alleged that the move to produce an entirely AI-generated film reflects a disturbing shift away from real creators.
“Congratulations @vijaysubramaniam84. Here is the man heading the @lifeatcollectiveartistsnetwork that represents artists, writers, directors, now producing a film made by AI. So much for looking after and representing the interests of creators,” he wrote.
He further accused the agency of prioritising profits over the welfare of artistes:
“End of the day, all these agencies are only interested in making money off you… since you’re not making enough for them, they are going all AI.”
A Call to Action for Artistes
Kashyap urged actors and creators to question the decision or reconsider their association with the agency:
“Any actor or anyone who calls themselves artists, and has a spine will be and should be either questioning him or leaving the agency since he has proved that he thinks you’re no match for his AI performance.”
Calling the development a “shameful” moment for the industry, the filmmaker said:
“This right here is the future for the spineless and cowardly so-called artistes in the Hindi film industry. Well done Vijay Subramaniam. Shame is not enough on you. You should be in the gutter.”
AI Sparks Tension in the Film Industry
The controversy comes just days after another AI-related debate in Bollywood, when the makers of Dhanush’s Raanjhanaa re-released the film in theatres with an AI-altered ending. The move triggered outrage among artistes, who termed it a “gross misconduct” and an exploitation of creative work.
Industry insiders argue that while AI technology is revolutionising film production globally, its unchecked use threatens the livelihoods and creative autonomy of writers, directors, and actors.
A Larger Debate on AI and Creativity
The uproar reflects the broader unease in global entertainment industries over the rise of Artificial Intelligence in content creation. With AI increasingly being used for scriptwriting, visual effects, and now even entire productions, many fear a “fifth industrial revolution” in which machines could eclipse human artistry.
For India, where the film industry sustains millions of livelihoods, the shift could have serious social and cultural consequences, sparking a debate that is only set to intensify in the coming years.
Final Thoughts from TheTrendingPeople.com
Anurag Kashyap’s blistering remarks have once again placed the spotlight on the uneasy intersection of technology and art. As Chiranjeevi Hanuman – The Eternal gears up to be a test case for AI-driven filmmaking, the coming months may determine whether such innovations are welcomed as progress—or resisted as a betrayal of human creativity.
