Workshop on ‘Print and Tradition’ Explores Historical Narratives at Kalady
Kochi, July 7, 2025 – A two-day workshop titled ‘Print and Tradition’ was held at Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady, bringing together eminent academicians, historians, and sociologists to discuss the evolving intersections between print culture and traditional knowledge systems.
The workshop was jointly organised by the Kerala Council for Historical Research (KCHR) and the Department of History at the university.
Veena Naregal, Professor of Sociology at the Institute of Economic Growth, New Delhi, inaugurated the event, offering critical insights into the socio-political implications of print in postcolonial India.
K. N. Ganesh presided over the inaugural session, while Susan Thomas, Head of the Department of History, and Manu V. Devadevan, Associate Professor of History at IIT Mandi, addressed the gathering.

Scholars from across the country presented papers that spanned a range of themes, including print’s role in the construction of cultural memory, language politics, and the transmission of tradition in modern India.
