Tuhin Sinha Calls BRICS Condemnation of Pahalgam Attack a Diplomatic Victory, Cites India's Economic Progress
New Delhi, July 7 — BJP National Spokesperson Tuhin Sinha on Monday hailed the BRICS nations’ strong condemnation of the Pahalgam terror attack as a “great victory of diplomacy” for India. The remarks came after the adoption of the ‘Rio de Janeiro Declaration’ during the 17th BRICS Summit in Brazil, where the bloc denounced terrorism and expressed solidarity with India following the April 22 tragedy that claimed 26 lives.
“This is a significant diplomatic achievement,” said Sinha in a statement to IANS. “The declaration spans 31 pages and 126 paragraphs — and India is mentioned 10 times. The Pahalgam attack is condemned in clear, unambiguous terms. It reflects India’s growing influence and the credibility of our position on terrorism.”
BRICS Unites Against Terrorism
In Paragraph 34 of the Rio Declaration, BRICS nations — Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa — condemned the Jammu and Kashmir terror attack in the strongest terms.
“We condemn in the strongest terms the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, 2025, during which at least 26 people were killed and many more injured. We reaffirm our commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, including the cross-border movement of terrorists, terrorism financing, and safe havens,” the declaration states.
Sinha noted that this unified stance from BRICS, along with a similar statement by the QUAD alliance, underscores a growing global consensus with India’s counter-terrorism position.
“This proves that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India’s voice is being heard and respected globally,” Sinha asserted.
Congress Criticised Over Foreign Policy Remarks
Taking a swipe at the opposition, Sinha criticised the Congress party for its skepticism regarding India's foreign policy efforts, especially in the wake of 'Operation Sindoor'.
“Those who claimed India’s diplomacy was failing should now introspect,” he said. “This global consensus on the Pahalgam issue is the outcome of strategic diplomacy and sustained global engagement.”
India Among Most Equal Economies: World Bank Report
Sinha also referenced a new World Bank report, which ranks India as the fourth most equal country in terms of income distribution, highlighting the country’s economic transformation over the last decade.
“India’s Gini Index is now lower than that of China,” Sinha pointed out. “This means we have achieved better income equality than both the United States and China — a remarkable feat for a country of our size.”
The report indicates that between 2011–12 and 2022–23, over 171 million Indians were lifted out of extreme poverty, with poverty levels dropping to just 4%.
Sinha attributed this success to inclusive governance and key policy reforms under the Modi administration.
“This is not just a statistical achievement. It reflects the sustained policy efforts that focus on inclusive development. Schemes like Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) have played a pivotal role.”
According to the BJP leader, ₹40 lakh crore has been directly transferred into the bank accounts of the poor over the past 10 years, ensuring transparency and eliminating leakages in public welfare programs.
Congress Accused of “Propaganda Politics”
In his concluding remarks, Sinha took aim at Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, accusing him of misleading the public on poverty and wealth inequality.
“Despite the data, if Congress continues to claim that only two businessmen control the country’s wealth while poverty is rising, then it’s nothing but political posturing,” Sinha stated. “Jairam Ramesh and his party are denying facts and economic concepts just to stay relevant.”
He urged the Congress party to accept India’s socio-economic progress.
“Instead of running propaganda every morning, the Congress should acknowledge facts, reflect on the data, and appreciate the economic transformation taking place,” he said.
Conclusion
With global platforms like BRICS aligning with India's stance on terrorism and international reports highlighting major strides in poverty alleviation and income equality, the Modi government’s policies appear to be gaining recognition both at home and abroad. Tuhin Sinha’s strong statements underscore the BJP’s confidence in India’s rising diplomatic and economic stature.
