Actor suffers muscular injury while shooting an action sequence in Mumbai; doctors advise one-month rest, shooting of 'King' halted temporarily
Shah Rukh Khan Suffers Injury During Action Shoot for ‘King’, Flown to US for Medical Treatment
Mumbai, July 19 – Superstar Shah Rukh Khan has reportedly suffered a muscular injury while filming a high-octane action sequence for his upcoming action thriller King. The incident occurred at Mumbai’s Golden Tobacco Studio earlier this week, causing an unexpected halt in the film’s shoot schedule.
According to production sources, Shah Rukh was filming a complex stunt when he felt strain in his muscles. Though the injury is not life-threatening, his medical team took swift action and decided to fly him to the United States for advanced medical care.
“It’s a muscular strain, but given Shah Rukh’s intense schedule and past physical strain from years of action roles, the team didn’t want to take chances. He’s in good hands and is expected to make a full recovery,” said a person closely associated with the production.
Doctors Recommend One-Month Rest
Doctors in the US have advised Khan to rest for at least a month before resuming physical activity or work. As a result, the shooting of King—which was taking place across several prominent studios including Film City, Golden Tobacco, and Yash Raj Studios—has been temporarily paused.
A senior crew member confirmed that all filming scheduled for July and August has been canceled, with the next potential shooting window now pushed to September or October 2025.
High Expectations from ‘King’
King has been generating massive buzz as Shah Rukh Khan returns to the action genre following his blockbuster outings in Pathaan and Jawan. The film brings together an ensemble cast including Abhishek Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Rani Mukerji, Arshad Warsi, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Jaideep Ahlawat, Saurabh Shukla, Raghav Juyal, Abhay Verma, and Shah Rukh’s daughter Suhana Khan, who is expected to make a special appearance.
The project is co-directed by Siddharth Anand (of War and Pathaan fame) and Suhana Khan’s mentor, Sujoy Ghosh. The film reportedly features globe-spanning action sequences, an espionage-inspired storyline, and stylized cinematography.
Will the Release Be Delayed?
With this unanticipated medical break, questions have surfaced about whether King will miss its intended 2025 release window. While producers have not officially commented on a delay, the timeline will likely shift depending on Khan’s recovery and the resumption of filming.
Industry Reacts with Concern and Support
The film fraternity and fans alike have extended their support to the actor. Social media was abuzz on Friday with hashtags like #GetWellSoonSRK and #KingKhan trending across platforms.
Bollywood trade analyst Komal Nahta tweeted:
“Shah Rukh Khan has always pushed the limits for his roles. Wishing him a speedy recovery. The wait for ‘King’ just got more intense.”
Khan, who turns 60 this year, has continued to perform most of his stunts himself, earning admiration for his dedication and discipline. After the commercial success of Pathaan and Jawan, King is widely seen as a career-defining project that could seal his late-career action superstar status.
