Shabana Azmi Posts Emotional Throwback from Hum Paanch Sets with Brother Baba Azmi
Mumbai, July 1 — Veteran actress Shabana Azmi took a nostalgic trip down memory lane as she shared a heartfelt black-and-white throwback photo with her brother Baba Azmi, taken on the sets of the 1980 film Hum Paanch.
In the photo shared on her Instagram, Shabana is seen gently placing her hand on her brother’s chin — a touching moment from their early days in Indian cinema.
“One of My Favourite Photos,” Writes Azmi
Captioning the post, Azmi wrote:
“This is one of my favourite photos with my brother #Baba Azmi on the sets of #Boney Kapoor’s #HumPaanch directed by #Bapu.”
She went on to reveal that Baba Azmi was just starting out his career as an operative cameraman when the photo was taken. Shabana, on the other hand, was the female lead in the film.
In a touching addition, the actress recalled her mother’s presence on the set:
“A rare occasion when my mother #ShaukatKaifi came on the set and kept praying fervently that neither of us made a mistake that could require a retake!! Mothers!”

“The writer writes oblivious to the scenic beauty but there is peace and serenity in this photo,” she captioned the post.
The couple married in 1984 after meeting at the residence of Shabana’s father, legendary poet Kaifi Azmi. Javed Akhtar was previously married to Honey Irani, with whom he shares two children — Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar, both well-known names in the Indian film industry.
