Born on July 23, 1906, in Bhavra, located in present-day Madhya Pradesh, Chandra Shekhar Azad rose to prominence as one of the most fearless and committed revolutionaries during British colonial rule.
He joined the Hindustan Republican Association (HRA), which later evolved into the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA) — a revolutionary organization aimed at ending British domination through armed resistance.
Azad was deeply influenced by the ideologies of Bhagat Singh, Ram Prasad Bismil, and Ashfaqulla Khan, and played a significant role in high-profile revolutionary acts, including:
- The Kakori Train Robbery (1925)
- The attempted assassination of British officers

Azad’s life came to a tragic but heroic end on February 27, 1931, in Allahabad (now Prayagraj), during a fierce encounter with the British police at Alfred Park.
