India vs Pakistan Match Cancelled at World Championship of Legends After Indian Players and Sponsor Object
New Delhi, July 20 — The much-awaited India vs Pakistan cricket match at the World Championship of Legends (WCL) has been officially cancelled. The decision came after Indian players and one of the main sponsors, EaseMyTrip, raised strong objections.
The match was planned for Sunday in Birmingham, but it created controversy because of recent political tensions between the two countries. Many fans and former cricketers were not comfortable with the idea of playing against Pakistan.
Organisers Apologise and Cancel Match
The organisers of WCL said they wanted the match to spread peace and friendship, like a recent India-Pakistan volleyball match. But after seeing the strong reaction, they admitted that it caused discomfort and hurt feelings.
“We understand the match upset many people and Indian players. We are sorry and have decided to cancel the match,” said the organisers in a statement.
Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina Refused to Play
Former Indian cricketers Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina made it clear that they did not want to play against Pakistan.
Dhawan even shared an email he had sent to the organisers on May 11, saying he wouldn’t take part in the match. On social media, he wrote:
“I stand by my decision made on May 11. My country means everything to me. Nothing is more important than India.”
Sources say other players also privately told the organisers they wouldn’t play in the match.
Sponsor EaseMyTrip Also Opposed the Match
Travel company EaseMyTrip, which is one of WCL’s main sponsors, also strongly opposed the India vs Pakistan match.
In a post on social media, the company said:
“We signed a 5-year deal with WCL, but from the beginning, we made it clear—we will not support any match involving Pakistan. We support the India team, but not any match that includes Pakistan. Bharat First. Always.”
Why Was There So Much Opposition?
The decision comes after rising tensions between the two countries. Recently, there was a terror attack in Pahalgam, followed by India’s Operation Sindoor. This led to strong emotions among fans and players, and many felt that now is not the right time for an India-Pakistan match.
Last year, India and Pakistan played in the WCL final, and India won. But this year, the situation is different, and many believe national interest should come first.
India Legends Continue in the Tournament
Despite the cancelled match, India Legends, who are the defending champions, will continue playing in the tournament. They are still one of the top teams in the competition.
Final Thoughts from TheTrendingPeople.com
This cancellation shows that for many Indians, national pride is more important than sports. Indian cricketers and sponsors have shown unity by standing up for the country. In a time of rising tensions, they have sent a strong message: India comes first. Always.
