Aishwarya Khare on ‘Chhoriyan Chali Gaon’: "After Playing Lakshmi for So Long, I Want Audiences to Know the Real Me"
Mumbai, July 16 — Popular TV actress Aishwarya Khare, best known for her role as Lakshmi in Bhagya Lakshmi, is set to explore a new side of herself through Zee TV’s upcoming rural-based reality show “Chhoriyan Chali Gaon.” The actress recently opened up about her decision to take on this unconventional project, what it means to her personally, and how she’s preparing for the challenge.
Speaking to IANS, Aishwarya shared that the opportunity came at the perfect time in her career, especially after her long stint as the lead in Bhagya Lakshmi.
“The first reason why I said yes to the show is that after portraying Lakshmi for so long, I had completely absorbed the character. People have seen me as Lakshmi and remember me that way. So, this show became an opportunity for audiences to know me as Aishwarya, beyond the character. That was a big motivation.”
Breaking Out of the Lakshmi Mold
Having become a household name with her portrayal of Lakshmi, Aishwarya is now embracing a more personal journey with Chhoriyan Chali Gaon, a show that blends real-life challenges with cultural immersion.
“I wanted to do something different post-Bhagya Lakshmi. Chhoriyan Chali Gaon felt like a perfect chance to try something new. I really liked the concept—it’s very relevant and meaningful today,” she said, adding, “And being able to do this on Zee TV made it an even bigger opportunity for me.”
A City Girl in a Village Setting
The show brings together 11 independent urban women who leave behind modern city comforts to live in a traditional Indian village. Hosted by Rannvijay Singha of Roadies fame, the show promises to challenge participants both physically and emotionally.
Though Aishwarya has lived all her life in urban settings, she did recall one childhood trip to a village.
“I went to a village once when I was in fourth or fifth grade. I don’t remember much, but I recall there being no electricity, icy cold water, and my grandma cooking on a traditional stove. I still remember opening the gate and seeing a mustard field blanketed in fog. It looked like a cloud had descended. It was so beautiful. Those are small memories—but my actual experience of living in a village is practically zero.”
Preparing to Challenge Herself
Transitioning from a fiction daily soap to a raw, unscripted reality format comes with its own set of challenges. Aishwarya said she’s focusing equally on mental readiness and physical preparation.
“The two things I’ve focused on the most are my clothing and my mental preparation. I’ve always believed that you shouldn’t give up without trying. I never say, ‘I can’t do this’ before giving it a shot.”
She believes that confronting adversity head-on fosters personal growth:
“I’m approaching this with the goal of becoming stronger—mentally, emotionally, and physically. And I believe this show can help me grow in all those areas.”
