Amit Shah Celebrates 11 Years of Digital India, Credits PM Modi’s Vision for Transforming Bharat into a Global Digital Powerhouse
New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday lauded the Modi government’s digital revolution, marking the completion of 11 years of Digital India. Shah called the transformation “unprecedented” and said it has not only made governance efficient and transparent but also delivered significant ease of living and contributed to India’s rapid economic expansion.
In a powerful post on social media platform X, the Home Minister shared a digital poster titled “Big Picture – India’s Techade”, summarizing the major milestones achieved under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s technology-first governance model.
“The Modi government democratised the use of technology and harnessed its power for the business sector, making Bharat a leading digital economy in the world,” Shah wrote. “Whether it is healthcare, education, trade, or commerce, PM Shri @narendramodi Ji has transformed every sector of the economy and society through the digital revolution.”
Bharat’s Digital Transformation: A Decade of Milestones
In his post, Shah outlined how the Modi-led government’s emphasis on digital empowerment has reshaped the country’s infrastructure, social welfare, healthcare, and business ecosystems. He particularly highlighted how technology has become a key enabler of equitable growth by bringing digital benefits directly to villages, citizens, and underserved communities.
Here are some of the major achievements highlighted in the Home Minister’s statement:
- 2.18 lakh gram panchayats now connected via optical fibre networks, boosting rural connectivity and bridging the digital divide.
- Rs 44 lakh crore transferred to poor and marginalised citizens via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), ensuring transparency and eliminating middlemen.
- Under the eSanjeevani scheme, over 37 crore digital consultations provided access to healthcare for millions, especially during the pandemic.
- DigiLocker, India’s national document repository, now boasts over 52 crore registered users and billions of issued documents.
- The UMANG app, a unified platform for all government services, has been accessed by 8 crore users, enabling seamless access to over 2,000 public services.
A Telecom and Internet Revolution
According to Shah, internet penetration in India has surged by 285% over the past 11 years. He also noted the transformation in mobile connectivity and affordability:
- India now has 116 crore mobile subscribers.
- The average cost per GB of mobile data has plummeted from Rs 308 to Rs 9.34, making India one of the most affordable data markets in the world.
The government’s flagship BharatNet project has also laid 6.93 lakh km of optical fibre cable, paving the way for universal internet access across the nation, including remote tribal and hilly areas.
A Booming Digital Economy and Governance
One of the standout achievements of India’s Techade is its emergence as a global leader in real-time digital transactions.
- India accounts for 49% of all global real-time digital payments, a figure that surpasses the combined total of the next four countries.
- The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal, a symbol of transparent procurement, has seen over Rs 13 lakh crore worth of orders placed until March 2025.
These figures are indicative of the scale at which digital technology has integrated with governance and commerce, making public procurement faster, fairer, and more efficient.
ISRO’s International Outreach
The Home Minister also praised the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for playing a pivotal role in bolstering India’s international stature in science and technology.
- Over the past 11 years, ISRO has launched 393 foreign satellites, contributing significantly to global space research and technology cooperation.
This achievement also reinforces India’s image as a cost-effective and reliable space partner for the global scientific community.
A Vision Realised
Amit Shah’s remarks come at a time when the Modi government is setting the stage for the next phase of India’s digital journey. From smart governance and inclusive fintech to AI integration and cybersecurity infrastructure, the focus is on future-proofing India’s digital capabilities.
Shah concluded by reaffirming that PM Modi’s vision has turned Digital India from a mission into a movement, touching every facet of Indian life—from villages and startups to education, medicine, and international diplomacy.
As the country continues to celebrate the success of ‘Digital India’ under the banner of #11YearsOfDigitalIndia, Shah’s post encapsulates how far Bharat has come and where it aims to go in the next decade—ushering in a true Techade for India.
