Delhi Reports 23 New Cases; Hospitals Asked to Stay Prepared
According to Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Singh, the national capital recorded 23 new Covid-19 cases as of Thursday. In light of the uptick, hospitals across Delhi have been advised to ensure adequate availability of beds, oxygen supplies, essential medications, and vaccines.
"We are monitoring the situation closely. There is no need to panic, but hospitals have been asked to stay prepared in case of further developments," Singh said.
Maharashtra Reports Young Patient's Death
In a tragic development, Maharashtra reported the death of a 21-year-old Covid-19 patient undergoing treatment at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Kalwa Hospital in Thane. The Thane Municipal Corporation confirmed the fatality on May 25, but did not elaborate on whether the patient had underlying health conditions.
Bengaluru Records First Covid-19 Death in Current Wave
Karnataka’s Bengaluru also reported its first Covid-19 death in the current surge. An 84-year-old resident of Whitefield passed away on May 17 after testing positive. According to the Karnataka Health Department, the elderly man had severe comorbidities and succumbed to multi-organ failure.
Despite the fatality, the state has maintained a calm stance, stating that the majority of the 38 active cases in Karnataka, including 32 in Bengaluru, are mild and manageable.
In the last 24 hours, 108 individuals were tested, with five returning positive results and one patient discharged. The state government has directed health authorities to stock up on testing kits and necessary supplies in anticipation of a possible increase in cases next month.
Southern States Stay on Alert
States like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana have seen a gradual increase in case numbers, although health officials emphasise that severe cases remain rare. All three states have issued public advisories urging citizens to follow basic Covid-19 protocols, including mask-wearing in crowded areas, hand hygiene, and seeking immediate testing if symptoms arise.
Public Advised Not to Panic as States Issue Precautionary Measures
Despite the slight rise in numbers, central and state health authorities have urged the public not to panic. Most of the new infections are displaying mild or no symptoms, with patients either recovering at home or requiring minimal medical intervention.
States including Delhi and Karnataka have clarified that no lockdowns or curfews are under consideration, and that routine public life can continue with caution.
“Covid-19 is still around, and periodic spikes are expected. What matters is that our systems are ready, and the public stays informed and cooperative,” a senior official from the Ministry of Health told The Trending People.
Conclusion: Stay Alert, Not Alarmed
While the current wave of Covid-19 infections in India is relatively contained, vigilance remains key. With proactive measures from health departments and clear communication from authorities, India is taking a prevention-first approach to ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens.
For now, citizens are advised to monitor symptoms, avoid crowded spaces where possible, and follow official guidelines issued by local health bodies.
