Mamata Banerjee Hits Back at PM Modi’s “False Campaign” in Alipurduar
Kolkata, May 30 (TheTrendingPeople.com):
A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the West Bengal government of promoting violence and corruption, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee hit back, calling his speech a “vicious and false campaign” made for narrow political gains.
In a post on her official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Mamata Banerjee strongly criticized the Prime Minister, accusing him of spreading “blatant untruths” about the state during his rally in Alipurduar, North Bengal, on Thursday.
“False Charges for Political Gains”: Mamata Banerjee
Referring to the PM’s speech, where he spoke about Murshidabad riots and the teacher recruitment scam, Banerjee said the comments were made with a politically motivated mindset. She accused the BJP of trying to erase her government’s development work in Alipurduar.
“A false campaign was launched from Alipurduar by the Prime Minister for narrow power gains,” Banerjee wrote.
She claimed that her government had worked hard in Alipurduar since it was made a separate district in June 2014, and that people of the region have benefited from various welfare and infrastructure schemes.
Key Projects and Development Work in Alipurduar
Banerjee presented a detailed list of the state’s achievements in Alipurduar district:
- Administrative accessibility: Alipurduar was made Bengal’s 20th district in 2014.
- Infrastructure: A model integrated administrative building named Dooars Kanya was built.
- Healthcare: Hospitals, special newborn care units, wellness centres, and blood banks have been developed.
- Education: Alipurduar University, a new engineering college, hostels, and several schools were established.
She also shared numbers on social security schemes:
- Lakshmir Bhandar: 3.57 lakh women benefited
- Kanyashree: 5.72 lakh girls helped
- Khadyasathi (food security): 12.91 lakh people covered
- Sabuj Sathi (bicycles for students): 2.54 lakh beneficiaries
- Swasthya Sathi (health insurance): Over 4 lakh beneficiaries
Support to Tea Workers and Local Industry
For the region’s 61 tea estates, Banerjee claimed:
- 8 closed tea gardens reopened by the state
- Wages raised to ₹250 per day, the highest in India
- Monthly financial aid, ration, drinking water, and healthcare provided to workers
She also highlighted the Chaa Sundari Project, which built houses for 2,969 families, and helped 14,000 more families with housing funds. Two new industrial parks and over 14,105 MSMEs have created more than 38,000 jobs, she added.
“We don’t divide people by religion, caste, or race. We work for all people,” Mamata said, taking a swipe at the BJP.
Final Thoughts by The Trending People
As political temperatures rise in West Bengal ahead of key elections, the war of words between the Centre and the state government is intensifying. While Prime Minister Modi paints a picture of lawlessness under the TMC rule, Mamata Banerjee defends her administration with numbers and on-ground achievements.
At The Trending People, we believe that voters deserve facts over slogans. Both state and central leaders must focus on real issues that matter to people—jobs, safety, and development. Alipurduar may just be one district, but it reflects the broader political struggle for control and narrative in West Bengal.
