April 02, 2025 — Mumbai: In a deeply tragic incident that highlights the dark side of social media fame, Misha Agrawal, a young influencer and entrepreneur, died by suicide just two days before her 25th birthday. The news of her untimely death was confirmed through her official Instagram handle, where her sister Mukta Agrawal shared an emotional message.
According to Mukta, Misha had been struggling emotionally due to the decline in her Instagram followers. The influencer, despite holding a law degree and preparing for the judicial services exam, was deeply affected by the numbers on social media, which she believed defined her career and worth.
“She Built Her World Around Instagram,” Says Sister Mukta
In a heartbreaking note posted on Instagram, Mukta revealed that Misha was obsessed with hitting one million followers and had even set it as her phone wallpaper.
“She built her world around Instagram and her followers… When her followers started decreasing, she became distraught and felt worthless,” wrote Mukta.
Mukta further shared that Misha had been showing signs of depression since April.
“She would often hug me crying, saying, ‘Jija, what will I do if my followers decrease? My career will be over,’” she said.
Despite her academic achievements, Misha saw social media as her only future. Her sister tried to convince her to look at Instagram as just a part of her life, not the whole picture.
“I told her she would become a judge one day and didn’t need to worry about followers,” Mukta added.
Unfortunately, Misha took her own life, leaving the family devastated.
Bollywood Actor Taapsee Pannu Reacts
Actor Taapsee Pannu, known for her strong opinions on mental health and social issues, also reacted to Misha’s death through her Instagram story. She called it a tragic but predictable moment, given the pressures young influencers face today.
“Fear that a day will come the numbers here will overpower the love to live… This instant gratification and validation of likes and comments will overtake the degrees which make you worth much more. It’s heartbreaking to see this,” wrote Taapsee.
A Wake-Up Call on Social Media Pressure
The death of Misha Agrawal, a talented young woman with a promising future in law, has sparked serious conversations about mental health and the dangers of online validation. As platforms like Instagram continue to influence how young people see themselves, experts are urging for more awareness around the psychological toll of social media.
