Indians spent an estimated ₹12,000 crore on gold jewellery and related items on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, according to the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT). Despite high prices, the festive spirit, along with the ongoing wedding season, boosted sales across the country.
In addition to gold, silver sales were estimated at around ₹4,000 crore, making this year’s Akshaya Tritiya one of the most commercially successful in recent times.
“Based on initial estimates, gold and related products worth ₹12,000 crore were sold nationwide today. Silver trade was also strong, with approximately ₹4,000 crore in transactions,” said CAIT National Secretary General and BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal.
Prices at Record Highs – Yet Sentiment Strong
On Akshaya Tritiya, gold prices were around ₹97,500 per 10 grams, while silver was priced at ₹98,000 per kilogram — both among the highest rates recorded in India’s market history. Surprisingly, prices dipped slightly during the day, with gold dropping by ₹1,000 and silver by ₹2,000. Yet, this had little impact on buyer enthusiasm.
“Even with such high prices, the emotional and cultural value of this day kept demand steady,” said Pankaj Arora, President of the All-India Jewellers and Goldsmith Federation. “Normally, price drops attract more buyers, but today the focus was more on tradition than rates.”
Why Gold Shines Bright on Akshaya Tritiya
Akshaya Tritiya, considered a highly auspicious day in the Hindu calendar, is believed to bring good fortune, lasting prosperity, and spiritual benefits. The word “Akshaya” means “never diminishing,” and it is widely believed that any purchase or activity started on this day leads to continuous growth and success.
“Gold represents purity, prosperity, and long-term wealth, making it the most preferred purchase on this day,” said B.C. Bhartia, CAIT National President. “Every year, jewellers, goldsmiths, and artisans look forward to this day, as it marks a significant spike in demand for precious metals.”
Gold's Rising Value
To put things in perspective, in 2022, gold was priced at around ₹52,700 per 10 grams and silver at ₹65,000 per kilogram. This year’s rates were nearly double, showing how much precious metals have appreciated — and yet the tradition continues to hold strong.
Whether for investment, weddings, or religious beliefs, Akshaya Tritiya 2025 saw Indians reaffirm their trust in gold and silver, celebrating not just wealth, but also culture and heritage.
