Shradha Sharma is an Indian entrepreneur and journalist who is best known as the founder and CEO of YourStory, a digital media platform dedicated to startups and entrepreneurs. Born in Bihar and raised in Patna, she went on to study history at St. Stephen's College, Delhi University, before completing her Design Management degree at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), Ahmedabad in 2004.
Before launching her own startup, Sharma worked as an Assistant Vice President at CNBC TV18 and as a Brand Advisor at The Times of India. Her experience in journalism gave her a keen understanding of how to create and promote great content, which she applied to her own venture with YourStory.
The idea for YourStory came to Sharma while she was working as a journalist at CNBC TV18. She became interested in profiling startup companies and the people behind them and started writing about them on her personal blog. Her passion for startup stories grew as she found that there were many great stories out there that weren't being covered by mainstream media.
Eventually, Sharma decided to turn her blog into a dedicated media platform for startups and entrepreneurs, and in September 2008, she founded YourStory. The site started out with no clear business model, but Sharma's focus on creating great content eventually drew in a loyal audience.
Today, YourStory is one of India's leading online media ventures for entrepreneurs and startups, with flagship properties including YourStory.com, SocialStory, and HerStory. The site has published over 40,000 stories of entrepreneurs and reaches over 10 million engaged readers every month.
Despite all of her success, Sharma remains grounded and focused on her mission to empower and inspire entrepreneurs. She believes that entrepreneurship is not just about starting a business, but about creating positive change in the world.
In an interview with Entrepreneur India, Sharma explained her vision for YourStory, saying, "We are here to tell stories of people who are doing something different. We believe that every person has a story and that story can inspire somebody else. We want to create a platform where people can learn from each other and get inspired."
