Gaurav Gogoi Slams Modi Govt Over Pahalgam Terror Attack: ‘Centre Can’t Hide Behind LG’source : IANS
New Delhi, July 28 (TheTrendingPeople.com) Congress MP and Deputy Leader of the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, launched a scathing attack on the Narendra Modi-led central government on Monday, alleging gross security failures in the April 22 Pahalgam terror incident, which claimed 26 lives. During the debate on Operation Sindoor in Parliament, Gogoi questioned the Centre’s response, saying it could not shift the blame to the Lieutenant Governor, as the ultimate responsibility lies with the central government.
“The Defence Minister spoke a lot, but he didn’t answer how the terrorists reached Pahalgam and managed to massacre 26 people,” Gogoi said in his address to the Lok Sabha.
Raising multiple concerns about India’s internal security, foreign policy, and military strategy, the Congress leader pressed the government to explain how infiltrators breached security and executed such a massive attack in the high-altitude Baisaran Valley of Jammu and Kashmir.
100 Days Without Justice, Says Gogoi
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Gogoi expressed serious concern that even after more than 100 days since the terror attack, the government had failed to apprehend the attackers or bring them to justice. “The nation deserves answers,” he stated, accusing the ruling BJP of mishandling the situation and shielding its accountability.
He added that the top officers of the Armed Forces have already acknowledged certain failures during the operation, and it is time for the political leadership to do the same.
Why Did Fighter Jets Fire from Long Range?
Quoting remarks made by Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Anil Chauhan and other senior military officials, Gogoi said that early mistakes during Operation Sindoor were evident, forcing the army to recalibrate its strategy and engage the enemy from a distance.
“I want to ask the Defence Minister why our fighter jets had to fire from a long range when our arsenal and jets are said to be among the best in the world,” he asked.
Gogoi’s remarks cast doubts on the military’s operational freedom during the counter-terror offensive and questioned the rationale behind firing from a distance, suggesting it may have compromised mission success.
Allegations of Chinese Involvement Ignored
The Congress MP didn’t stop at military strategy. He also questioned the Centre’s geopolitical approach, especially in relation to China. Citing Lieutenant General Rahul R. Singh’s remarks at a FICCI event, Gogoi claimed there were clear indicators that the terror strike had backing from both Pakistan and China.
“Lieutenant General Singh has openly referred to it as a two-front war. So why didn’t the government name China or show any stern stance?” Gogoi questioned.
He suggested that the government’s reluctance to call out China’s role publicly reveals a failure in asserting India’s sovereignty and defending national interest.
Questioning Diplomatic Silence and Restraint
In an unusual move, Gogoi also brought up the comments made by defence attaché Group Captain Shiv Kumar in Indonesia. According to Gogoi, Kumar stated that India couldn’t attack military installations across the border due to diplomatic restraints.
“Why was our military asked to exercise such restraint even after such a gruesome loss of lives? Who in the government took that decision?” Gogoi asked.
This line of questioning put a spotlight on what Congress perceives as the government's weak global diplomacy and soft stance towards Pakistan and its alleged backers.
India’s Foreign Policy a Failure, Says Congress
Gogoi went on to claim that India’s international diplomacy had reached a new low, especially in the context of Operation Sindoor. He pointed out that despite the government’s repeated claims of isolating Pakistan globally, the neighboring country continues to receive funding from international financial institutions.
“If Pakistan is truly isolated, then why is it still getting aid from the World Bank, IMF, and ADB?” he asked.
He argued that the Centre had failed to make its case effectively on the global stage and called India’s foreign policy a “complete failure” in the context of national security.
List of Security Failures Under BJP Rule
In a broader criticism of the BJP’s governance in Jammu and Kashmir, Gogoi reminded the House of several high-profile terror attacks that took place during their tenure. He cited the 2016 Uri attack, the 2019 Pulwama suicide bombing, and the latest Pahalgam incident as clear examples of intelligence and security lapses.
“These attacks underline the repeated failures of this government to protect citizens and jawans alike,” he said.
Gogoi alleged that rather than improving security infrastructure or increasing accountability, the government had allowed arrogance to seep into its governance, ignoring public anguish and institutional advice.
‘PM Ignored Pahalgam, Chose Bihar Rally Instead’
In one of his strongest accusations, Gogoi criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for failing to visit the site of the Pahalgam attack or meet the victims' families.
“After the dastardly terror attack, the Prime Minister didn’t go to Pahalgam but rather went to Bihar to address an election rally,” he said.
He contrasted this with Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the area, where the Congress leader met with grieving families and expressed solidarity with them. Gogoi used this moment to project Gandhi as a more empathetic and responsible leader in times of national tragedy.
Final Thoughts from The Trending People
Gaurav Gogoi’s address in the Lok Sabha has reignited a crucial debate around accountability, transparency, and leadership during national crises. His strong criticism of the Modi government highlights deep cracks in the current administration's security and diplomatic strategies. From the failure to prevent infiltration in Pahalgam to the absence of a clear response against China and Pakistan, the Congress MP has raised serious concerns that deserve urgent answers.
At the heart of this debate lies a fundamental question: Can a government claim success in national security without introspection or accountability when lives are lost under its watch?
The central government must move beyond optics and election narratives to rebuild trust with the citizens by presenting transparent updates, acknowledging lapses, and reinforcing systems. Only then can India truly claim victory in its fight against terror—not just on the battlefield but in the hearts and minds of its people.
